The following is a list of the recent news for UAW 5285. Click on the links below to read the article. If you have any news you'd like to add, please contact Steve Austin at the Union Hall. The
next monthly membership meeting for UAW Local 5285 will be held Saturday
April 13, 2002 at the downtown Union Hall at 113 East Charlotte Ave. Mount
Holly, North Carolina at 10:00 a.m. To the members of Local 5285 currently working and laid off: The renovation of our plant is going very well. The new chassis line is up and running and things seem to be going well. The kinks are being worked out and the issues that the employees have are being addressed. The old line is now being worked on and the progress has been very timely. The old paint booth is almost gone as work continues. The Cab in White area known to most as the old aluminum line is close to being complete. Some employees will be reporting there to work shortly. Progress is moving along fairly good as work continues. The Company has not told the union when anyone will be called back from layoff. As we receive information from the Company we will notify our members. We don't speculate and build false hope by rumors or second hand information. We will wait for concrete information and documentation from the Company before we will comment on any re-calls or anything concerning the new product. Please don't be frustrated or discouraged. The current economy has thrown every business in a tail spin and hopefully we will see a turn around very soon. The Manufacturing Industry seems to have been hit harder than any other Industry. We hope and pray that we will see our brothers and sisters back at work very soon, but there is just no way to tell right now. Solidarity
